Keep you wondering: EVP may help people reach the dead

Maybe there is a way for humans to hear what ghosts are trying to tell them.

The human ear wasn’t designed to pick up as many sounds as a recording device can, and can’t hear noises at certain frequencies. There is a theory, the Electronic Voice Phenomenon theory, that the recording of a certain area can pick up on ghosts answering questions, or even just trying to relay a message.

We don’t have the strongest ears, and sometimes people think they hear things that aren’t really there, or maybe sometimes people are hearing things that are there, we just can’t quite tell what it is. A theory suggests that if you were to bring a recording device, or something that can pick up on a higher frequency, you will hear a lot more than what you heard in person when playing back the recording.

The sound waves can’t be picked up on by the human ear, but that is precisely why you use a tool that is designed to do so. The theory says that spiritual entities aren’t strong enough, or don’t have enough power to put together a true voice, so they give off what little bit they can.

We can’t pick up on this noise, because we aren’t physically or anatomically able to.

So it is believed that if you were to take a recording device into an area that is said to be haunted, or experiencing paranormal happenings, and poke around, ask a few questions, maybe just leave the recording running, then when you play it back, if something was trying to get in contact with you, your best bet of hearing what they have to say is with this method.

A series of TV shows such as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures, who label themselves as professional ghost hunters, use this tool an exceptional amount of times. This could just be a way to get ratings up, but I think that they carry themselves professionally, really believe in this and want the truth.

I myself have tried this with my family out in Jerome, Ariz, at a haunted hotel that sits at the top of a hill. Like Athens very own Ridges, it was an old insane asylum. My family really went out there looking for something because we believe in this stuff immensely, and I know we’re not the only ones. The only thing we heard on this recording was a kind of static disturbance when we asked a question. Is this enough for me to chalk it up as haunted? No, probably not, but does that make me a non-believer? No.

This is one of the easiest methods for people looking to hear something ghostly during the Halloween season, you don’t need an expensive device; a recording application on your iPhone might be enough to get it done. Samples of this phenomenon can be found with a simple YouTube search. I’m not saying you might have the luck these people have, but if you are feeling adventurous and go out to try this, don’t be surprised when you hear something that sends those chills up your back.
