Wooten

Man convicted of domestic violence remains in prison

The Athens County Common Pleas Court found a Glouster man in violation of his community control in his post-conviction hearings, forcing him to serve the remainder of his prison term.

Joshua Wooten, 28, will continue to serve his previously suspended four-year and 11-month prison term, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s Office, for domestic violence charges from 2009.

He admitted to violating his parole and violating the protection order issued to the victim, according to information from the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

“Wooten’s violations stem from an incident that occurred in May of 2013, which resulted in a conviction in Municipal Court Disorderly Conduct,” Blackburn said in the release.

The Municipal Court documents state that Wooten originally pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct; however, he ultimately pleaded guilty of the minor misdemeanor.

Wooten tried to plea not guilty by reason of insanity in the Common Pleas Court last month, but the court still has not evaluated the claim, according to court documents.

“Wooten was previously convicted of one count of domestic violence in (one) case and one count of domestic violence in (another) in May of 2010,” Blackburn said in the release. “(He) was granted judicial release in December of 2010.”

Wooten’s next trial dates have not yet been released. He is currently incarcerated with a bond set at $50,000 in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
