Disney-themed event features bounce house

Ohio University students pretended to be princesses and bounced like children on Tuesday.

The University Program Council held an event called “Ohio U, where dreams come true” in Howard Park, a Disney-themed event for students.

At the event, students were able to make their own crowns, jump in a bouncy castle, enjoy finger sandwiches and tea and play trivia games for chances to win prizes that included Disney movies and OU merchandise.

The idea for the event came about in the spring, said Nicole Sirpilla, a senior studying organizational communication. Sirpilla is one of three creative event executives for UPC and was the creative event executive in charge.

In the spring, members of the UPC board brainstormed and presented ideas for events to be held in the fall. One of the vice chairs presented the idea to have a Disney-themed event, Sirpilla said.

“I took it and ran with it and here we are,” she said.

UPC did not screen a Disney movie at the event and did not officially include the Disney name in the title of the event so they did not have to pay any licensing fees, Sirpilla said.

The funds that were used to purchase the prizes, food, and other materials for the event came from the Senate Appropriations Commission.

Sirpilla did not know how much the event cost.

UPC has never put on a Disney-themed event before, but they would consider doing another, Sirpilla said.

Students that attended the event enjoyed themselves.

“I was very excited about it,” said Hillary Duncan, a sophomore studying fine arts photography. “I’m having a great time. It’s my favorite event I’ve been to so far.”

Duncan heard about the event two weeks ago and had been looking forward to it since.

Francis Hendricks, a sophomore who is undecided, came to the event because she enjoys the opportunity to meet other students who are interested in something she loves — Disney princesses.

Others students came purely for their love of all things Disney.

“I’m kind of obsessed with Disney movies,” said Shoshana Blair, a junior studying theater.
