Alleged vandal pleads guilty to domestic violence

A Chauncey man accused of vandalism pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of domestic violence.

Shawn A. Mayle, 30, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty of domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree, according to court documents.

“On May 17, Mayle did strike his wife in the face during an argument,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn stated a news release. “Mayle was previously convicted of domestic violence in Morgan County.”

Later this month he is slated to address during a pretrial charges of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, for which he was indicted July 29.

“Mayle is accused of failing to comply with Athens County Sheriff’s Office Deputies’ verbal and physical commands as they were attempting to arrest him as well as kicking the rear window of a police cruiser, causing the window to break and the vehicle to be taken out of commission,” Blackburn stated.

In regards to the vandalism and resisting arrest charges, there had originally been a plea agreement that he would serve six months in prison; however, the state requested  Judge George P. McCarthy not recognize the plea deal. He was sentenced to one year in jail.

Mayle will be incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail until his pretrial hearing Sept. 30.
