Final accomplice in Coolville case given more prison time

A Belpre man was sentenced to 20 years in prison by an Athens County Court of Common Pleas judge Monday for breaking into an 82-year-old Coolville woman’s home and beating her.

Brandon Baker was charged with 15 counts, including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, abduction, tampering with evidence, theft from an elderly person or disabled adult, theft of drugs and theft, according to a news release.

Christopher Fleming, Colin Stout and Cody Stout accompanied Baker. Baker was the last of the four to be sentenced.

“Baker was driven to the home of another individual by Christopher Fleming along with Colin and Cody Stout,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said in a news release. “Baker and Colin Stout entered the residence of an elderly individual, brutally assaulted her and stole items from her home.”

The charges range from first-degree to fifth-degree felonies.

Baker’s sentencing was argued before the court. The state recommended a prison term of 20 years and defense argued for 15 years, according to the release.

Baker was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.

Fleming and Cody Stout received a total sentencing of nine years and nine months in prison. Cody was sentenced in November 2012 and Fleming was sentenced in December 2012.

Colin Stout was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison. He was sentenced in February.
