Women's Basketball: Randall's contract not to be renewed

Ohio Athletics announced Sunday that women’s basketball coach Semeka Randall’s contract will not be renewed after her five years at the helm of the Bobcats.

“After an evaluation of the overall program, I feel it is time to move the program in a different direction,” Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus said in a news release. “We will begin a national search immediately for Ohio’s next women’s basketball coach.”

In her tenure with Ohio, Randall posted an overall record of 50-103, including a 22-58 mark in Mid-American Conference games. Both her overall and conference winning percentages are the worst in program history.

The Bobcats finished their season with an 83-61 loss to Miami in the first round of the MAC Tournament Saturday. Ohio finished the season 6-23 overall and tied for last place in the MAC at a 1-15 mark — the worst MAC record in program history.

Some Ohio players expressed approval of Athletics’ decision to not renew Randall’s contract on their private Twitter accounts after the announcement Sunday.

Randall earned an annual compensation of $142,000 for five years with the Bobcats, according to her contract.
