In the race for state representative of the 94th District, The Post endorses Democrat Debbie Phillips. Her commitments to education and clean energy show that she understands the problems facing Southeast Ohio, and her performance in office leaves little to be desired.
Though Phillips’ opponent, Republican Charles Richter, has a solid focus on economic development and job growth, his ideas on energy are less impressive than Phillips’. While Richter says he wants to get government out of businesses and invite hydraulic fracturing to the region, Phillips has been a leader in the House on developing the area’s alternative energy sources.
Phillips’ record in office includes several bills that encourage clean energy. She has been a steady proponent of education reform and represented Athens well with her support of repealing Senate Bill 5.
Debbie Phillips has been the right representative for Southeast Ohio. Removing her from office now would be a mistake.
