Men's Golf: Ohio looks to end fall season on positive note

Ohio will return to the course Monday in the Dayton Fall Invitational following individual play in last week’s Yestingsmeier Invitational.

The two-day tournament will be Ohio’s final outing of the fall season.

The Bobcats had some success last week in the individual scoring format, as senior Byron Firestone was tied for 9th before withdrawing from the tournament with a wrist injury, while fellow senior Michael Lamping finished 31st. The biggest surprise for the Bobcats came from freshman Mike Engelman, who finished 26th overall.

Firestone, who is often the Bobcats’ top scorer, said he should be ready to play Monday.

“My wrist is still a bit sore,” he said. “The doctors cleared me to play as long as I can withstand the pain. So I’ll play and see how it feels.”

Firestone is on the preliminary roster for the tournament, as are seniors Lamping and Brad Lucas, junior Connor Coldwater and freshman Brad Burgess.

Firestone placed second in last year’s Dayton Fall Invitational, while Lamping, Lucas and Coldwater all performed well. As a team, the Bobcats finished 3rd overall, only five strokes behind the eventual winner, IUPUI.
