Little Hocking resident sentenced to 16 years for bank robbery charges

A Little Hocking man was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to 10 felony charges stemming from a 2008 bank robbery.

Patrick Slider, 48, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, inducing panic and unlawful use of a hoax weapon of mass destruction, and one count of tampering with evidence and burglary as part of a plea agreement, said Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

On July 29, 2008, Slider placed two fake pipe bombs in post offices in Guysville and Stewart to distract police as he robbed the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville, Blackburn said in a news release.

Slider wielded a firearm in the bank and held two employees against their will. He stole more than $25,352 from the bank. Slider abandoned the vehicle he used during the robbery near West Virginia and fled to Michigan. He was arrested Sept. 2, 2008, and still had $3,057 with him, according to court documents.

He also broke into a residence in Coolville on May 28, 2008.

He pleaded guilty to all 10 counts and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Slider is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for being found guilty of drug charges in Washington County, Blackburn said.

His new prison sentence will run concurrently to the Washington County one.

Slider could have been sentenced to a maximum of 59 years in prison and a maximum fine of $125,000 if convicted of all 10 charges at a trial, according to the Ohio  Revised Code.
