A former Ohio University student charged with false voter registration changed his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.
Timothy N. Zureick, 21, was charged with 22 counts of false voter registration and one count of election falsification.
Zureick allegedly forged 22 signatures on a circulators petition and signed his name certifying that the signatures were not false between June 12 and July 8, according to court documents.
He was last enrolled at OU during Winter Quarter 2009-10.
Zureick pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Aug. 16, but changed it Oct. 3 to not guilty by reason of insanity.
As part of the plea, Zureick requested a court ordered evaluation to determine his competency to stand trial, according to court documents.
All of Zureick’s counts are fifth-degree felonies. He could be sentenced to a maximum of 23 years in prison and a maximum fine of $57,500 if convicted of all charges at trial.
