Ohio University’s Habitat for Humanity is hosting a pancake breakfast Saturday to raise money in an effort to eliminate substandard housing in Athens.
“We’re raising money for our build right now that’s taking place in Nelsonville,” said Jessica Turner, the fundraising officer for OU’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity. “Every weekend, we go out and help a family build a house. Each quarter, we have a different house that we go and build.”
Habitat for Humanity has weekly fundraisers such as bake sales and car washes, and larger-scale ones like its 5K run last quarter. The group is hoping to raise about $200 this weekend, Turner said.
“The homeowners have to put in a certain amount of hours (working on their house), but all of the labor and materials are at a discounted price, so they are able to afford it,” Turner said.
The breakfast will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at First Christian Church, 51 N. Congress St. Tickets are $4 at the door.
“We chose to do a pancake breakfast because everyone likes pancakes, and we thought it would be a great way to have everyone show up and support Habitat for Humanity,” Turner said.
