Council agenda: 2/20/12

At tonight’s regular session of the Athens City Council, there will be a series of ordinance readings involving the construction of the Columbus Circle Drive access road, as well as the initial reading for an ordinance regulating wireless communication towers.

Three ordinances up for second reading this evening are in place to officially accept the donation of small portions of land. These parcels of ground area are located at the site of the aforementioned Columbus Circle Drive access road. The landowners are turning over their less-than-one-acre sites willingly so the city can work on the access road.

Earlier this year, the City Council presented an ordinance that would regulate the construction of cellular towers. The ordinance focuses on promoting stealth in tower construction so as not to be visually obtrusive, as well as required tests to avoid constructing unnecessarily tall obelisks.

After being put on the backburner for several weeks, the ordinance will be up for first reading tonight.
