UPDATE: Elderly home-invasion victim taken by life flight to Columbus

UPDATE: An 80-year-old woman alleged attacked and stabbed during a home invasion in Coolville Monday has been taken by life flight to Grant Hospital in Columbus due to the nature of her injuries, Sheriff Kelly said in an email. She is in stable condition. Kelly suspects robbery and theft of drugs as motive for the invasion.

Police are investigating an alleged assault and stabbing of an 80-year-old woman that happened Monday night in Coolville.

The woman told Athens County Sheriff’s Deputies that someone allegedly entered her Brandeberry Road home, beat and stabbed her, when she called 9-1-1 Tuesday morning, said Sheriff Pat Kelly on his Facebook page.

The woman said all she could remember was a light shining in her face.

She was believed to have been unconscious during the night after suffering lacerations to her face and a stab wounds to the chest, Kelly said in the post. She was transported to Josephs Hospital in Parkersburg, W. Va. and is in stable condition.

The Sheriff’s office suspects robbery as the motive because the victim’s purse containing $300 is missing, Kelly said in the post.
