Tonight’s council meeting will host further discussion about the resolution to reverse the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission, as well as several upcoming construction and repair projects.
Councilman Jeff Risner, D-2nd Ward, introduced his resolution to eliminate the First Amendment rights of corporations as a result of the 2010 Supreme Court ruling at the second meeting of this year.
Tonight, it will be presented to the entirety of the Athens City Council. The resolution will be voted on during the regular meeting scheduled on Feb. 6.
Also to be discussed during the committee meeting is the planned repairs to the water lines beneath Hickory St. City. The Transportation Committee will be adding to the discussion of the bike path improvements in junction with the Ohio Department of Mental Health.
