A resident of North Congress Street was shot in the leg this morning after a burglary turned violent.
At about 12:30 a.m., Athens Police officers responded to 191 N. Congress St., near Highland Park, and were advised that the incident was a burglary turned shooting.
The resident, Jeff Mente, 34, was released shortly after receiving treatment at O'Bleness.
"I would like to stress we believe this incident to be an isolated incident and not a random act," said Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle in an email.
Police have no suspects at this time.
