After a rather mediocre win against Lake Erie College Tuesday, Ohio is ready to move on to its first regular season game.
The Bobcats will visit Morehead State Sunday to kick off the 2011-2012 campaign.
Coach Semeka Randall said that Morehead State is a scrappy ballclub, just like Lake Erie. She said the key for the Bobcats against the Eagles is to control the tempo of the game.
“They’re going to come in motivated, ready to play,” she said. “We have to be ready right out the gate with intensity.”
Junior Ashar Harris led the Eagles last year, averaging 14.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Randall said Harris is a “double-double machine” and lives off offensive rebounds.
“We’re really going to have to do a great job in containing her in the post,” Randall said. “And it’s not just one post player. It’s a committee of all five stepping up and making sure we box her out first.”
She said Ohio has to be prepared to guard everyone because Eagles coach Tom Hodges is going to be rotating players in to maintain a fresh look. With constant movement, Randall said Ohio has to slow down Morehead State, which likes to push the pace.
“It’s going to be important to make some plays, at least slow them down just a little bit and give us a chance to match up,” Randall said.
Morehead State plays Kentucky on Friday, but Randall did not see that as an edge for the Bobcats. “I don’t think you can read too much into it,” Randall said.
“Hopefully, being that it’s our first road game … we will be revved up and ready to go,” Randall added.
