The Ohio Bobcats swimming and diving teams open their quest to repeat a Mid-American Conference championship today when they face Bowling Green on the road.
The Bobcats are coming off their intra-squad scrimmage in which the green team defeated the white team 119.5-104.5. Freshman Haleigh Bartlett swept the diving competition in the scrimmage, winning the 1- and 3-meter competitions.
Coach Greg Werner said he is excited to see his team compete in its first tournament of the year.
“I cant wait to see how the team performs and learn a little bit more about this year’s Bobcats,” Werner said. Last year, Ohio beat Eastern Michigan 165-135 in Ypsilanti, Mich., and Bowling Green in Athens, 171-121.
Werner said one of his goals for the tournaments is to see improvement for the scrimmage, but he knows it will not be easy because his team is the defending MAC champion.
“Knowing that we’re the defending conference champions, we’re going to get everyone’s best shot whether it’s a conference school or a non-conference school,” Werner said. ”Hopefully, we accept that, acknowledge that and respond to that. And if we do that it will only make us better.”
