Mike Posner opened with his single, “Please Don’t Go,” and fans were singing it when the show came to a close.
Last night Posner performed at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium in front of a near sell-out crowd.
Posner’s most recent performance at OU was for 7Fest in 2010. He said he felt his act was cleaner the second time.
“I know I put on a better show,” Posner said.
Posner started the show in a Brain Trust letterman’s jacket but changed into a red and black silk kimono for “Bow Chicka Wow Wow.”
Audience members reached for and grabbed Posner’s legs at the edge of the stage while he sang. Before the final chorus of the song, Posner chose a girl from the crowd and snuck a kiss during a pause in the lights and music.
The show’s set list also included remixes of R. Kelly’s “Ignition,” Ginuwine’s “Pony,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” and Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep.”
Posner is working on his own music, too, and previewed a portion of a new song. His new mix tape, The Layover, comes out in November and features Machine Gun Kelly, Big Sean and Big Chris.
Posner returned for the encore sporting an OU football jersey and sang “Cooler Than Me.”
“This is one of the craziest places in the world to perform that I’ve been,” Posner said. “When I come here, it’s like a hometown show.”
In the latter half of the show, the crowd joined Posner in a 9Fest chant, showing their mutual interest in his return this spring for the annual fest.
“If they invite me, I’m there,” Posner said.
University Programming Council paid $35,000 for the show.
