After sweeping the Ohio Invitational for the second-consecutive season last weekend, the Bobcats hope to continue their winning ways against much tougher competition this afternoon in the All-Ohio Championships.
“It’s always nice to win at home, but this week is a new week,” said Ohio coach Clay Calkins. “After doing well last weekend, maybe some momentum and confidence traveled with us heading into All-Ohio.”
The All-Ohio meet, which will take place in Cedarville, Ohio, will include teams from throughout the state and is annually highlighted by larger Ohio schools such as Ohio State, Miami, Dayton, Cincinnati and Toledo.
After third-place finishes for both the men’s and women’s teams in 2010, Calkins said both teams have their eyes set on improving upon this year’s early-season success.
“Hopefully, we can do well,” Calkins said. “I think we are shooting for the women’s team to finish in third, but anything higher would be outstanding. The men, however, will have a good test. They haven’t faced competition this tough yet.”
Men’s runners Noah Howkins and Tyler Ames return to the All-Ohio Championships this season. Both placed in the meet in 2010.
With little experience on the course for the men while facing such steep competition, Calkins said he is unsure of what to except.
On the contrary, the women’s team is returning almost all of its runners who placed in the meet last season.
The All-Ohio Championships will be the last meet for the Bobcats for two weeks, before Pre-Nationals Oct. 16.
The women’s race is set to begin at 2 p.m. today; the men’s race will start at 2:45 p.m.
