A former Ohio University basketball player is again being sued after he allegedly punched a bouncer outside Courtside Pizza and Bar around 11 p.m. on May 1, 2010.
Armon Bassett, 24, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of assault in November, 2010 after allegedly punching doorman John Willis in the face. Bassett was fined $250 and ordered to complete 40 hours of community service.
Willis is now asking the judge to find that Bassett was negligent in his actions and liable for the damages that occurred. Willis is seeking at least $275,000 in damages.
According to court documents, Willis suffered a fractured nose, debilitating humiliation and stress from the incident.
Bassett was arrested around midnight after he fled on foot to the Verizon parking lot, according to an Athens police report.
After transferring from Indiana, Bassett played one season with the Bobcats and led the team with 17.1 points per game.
Bassett decided to forgo his senior season at Ohio and went undrafted in last year’s NBA Draft.
In three games with the New Orleans Hornets’ Summer League team in 2010, Bassett averaged 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.
