Student turn out for the primary election proved to be as dismal as the weather with only 9 students coming out to vote as of 4 p.m. today.
Alan Ferguson, Precinct 2-1 said that they only had five voters, the most any student precinct in Baker had.
“I blame the rain,” Ferguson said.
Gerald Smith, volunteer at Precinct 5-2, said they only had three voters turn out out of a possible 1,238 registered voters,
Trudy Montle, presiding judge of Precinct 5-1, said that another reason why students probably are not at the polls is because of the issues being voted on this election.
“The issues on the table are council and a school levy,” Montle said. “Students aren’t interested in that.”
1st ward, precinct 5 has only seen one voter the whole day, Montle said.
Voting continues until 7:30 p.m.
