Track & Field: 'Cats runners impress in split-squad action

With one meet left until the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays showcased the distance runners and their continued trend of success heading into the end of the season.

Annie Beecham won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9 minutes and 48 seconds. Freshmen Emily Pifer and Juli Accurso finished in fourth and seventh, respectfully.

Freshman Allison Stillwell won the 10,000 meter-run with a time of 36 minutes and 50 minutes.

Angela Klimkowski and Lauren Fett finished in fourth and sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Teammate Kari Summers took second in 3,000-meter steeplechase invite, it was her second time running the event competitively coach Clay Calkins said.

“We had a strong a performance from our distance crew,” Calkins said.

This meet is famous for its relays and attracts some of the top talent from around the country.  The Bobcats were able to display their talents in an event that Ohio often doesn’t compete in.

The relay team of Brittany Tyree, Courtney Weiss, Hope McCarty and Accurso took first place in the 4x800 meter relay.

Weiss also took first in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Ashland Alumni Open showcased throwers and sophomore Lauren McCullough highlighted the weekend.  She came away with two top-10 finishes for the meet.

She placed 10th in the hammer throw with a throw of 49.35 meters and finished seventh place in javelin with a throw 35.31 meters. Her mark in the hammer throw is good enough for a new personal record Calkins said.

The Bobcats achieved a slew of top-20 finishes in the meet.

Kristen Mason and Brianna Allen finished in 16th and 17th threspectively in the hammer throw.  Allen set a new personal record with her throw of 45.93 meters.

Emily Woods finished in 12th in discus and 16th in the shot put.

Sophomore Jaimie Cavinee tied with teammate Miranda Richardson for 17th in the pole vault.
