An Athens County woman was charged with attempted murder in the physical assault of a four-year-old girl and is being held on a $1 million bond.
Ashley Jean Young, 25, of The Plains, is charged with inflicting multiple life-threatening injuries on the child.
Athens County Emergency Medical Service brought the girl to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital after finding her unresponsive Monday at about 4:30 p.m. The hospital alerted Athens County Children Services, according to a release from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl had “suspicious marks” on her body indicating physical abuse, according to the release. She was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Sheriff Pat Kelly said the girl remains in very serious condition.
“We handle cases of child abuse each and every day. Very rarely do we reach this level,” Kelly said.
Young was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, and search warrants were executed on Young and her home. Young is currently not talking to authorities, Kelly said.
