A college-aged man was arrested for possession of cocaine, ecstasy and MDMA powder Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking within the student population at Ohio University.
The man was arrested after a search warrant was issued for a rental unit on the east side of Athens, according to an Athens Police Department news release.
He was charged with one count of possession of cocaine, a third-degree felony; one count of possession of ecstasy, a fifth-degree felony; and one count of possession of MDMA powder, a fifth-degree felony, according to the release.
This was the fifth arrest since the Major Crimes Task Force began a continuous drug trafficking investigation in 2008, according to the release.
Throughout the investigation, officials seized powdered cocaine, marijuana, LSD, MDMA powder and ecstasy as well as two vehicles and a firearm, according to the release.
Ohio University Police, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have assisted Athens Police with its investigation.
Athens Police officials were not available for comment.
