Director of admissions announces resignation from OU at April's end

As though searching for a new president was not enough, Ohio University officials must now begin the process of replacing another administrator. OU Director of Undergraduate Admissions Norman Kip Howard will resign at the end of this month.

Howard announced he will step down effective April 30 to accept a position in enrollment at the University of South Carolina. Howard, who has worked at OU for the past 13 years, became interested in the job at USC because of the wider range of responsibilities, he said.

It certainly had nothing to do with any dissatisfaction

Howard said. I've had a wonderful experience here.

Jean Lewis, associate director of operations in the Office for Undergraduate Admissions, has been named interim director. She will hold the position until a search committee, chaired by College of Arts and Sciences Dean Leslie Flemming, names a permanent replacement.

The committee, which includes faculty members from almost every college in addition to a student representative, already has received over 40 applications and will begin narrowing the field of candidates at its next meeting on April 15, Flemming said. The process will end with interviews and hiring in May.

Applicants are required to have a master's degree and at least seven to 10 years experience in the area of undergraduate admissions management.

We're looking for somebody who's forward looking in the area of admissions and can really be aggressive in helping us to recruit all kinds of students Flemming said.
