Athens student pleads not guilty to alcohol-related charges

An 18-year-old Athens High School student pleaded not guilty to charges related to a January car crash that killed two teenagers.

Ryan A. Mingus, 3 N. May Ave., pleaded not guilty to keeping a place where alcohol is illegally distributed and five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor during his March 12 arraignment in Athens County Juvenile Court.

Mingus, a senior at Athens, allegedly supplied beer, rum and vodka to fellow students during a party at his house.

All six counts are first-degree misdemeanors, which each carry a maximum penalty of one year in jail.

The charges against Mingus are the result of the Ohio State Highway Patrol's investigation into a Jan. 24 car crash in which Olivia Sole, 14, of Athens, and Maggie Tabler, 16, of Albany, were killed.

The driver, Jana Miller, 16, of Albany, has entered a plea of denial to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of driving while intoxicated. Her pre-trial is April 14 at 10 a.m.

Mingus' jury trial is set for May 5.
