Trips approved at school board meeting

Contractors are still hard at work on the new school buildings for Alexander Local Schools, said Superintendent Robert Bray during last night's board of education meeting.

Work is focused on completing the gymnasium and the cafeteria, he said.

The proposed completion for the cafeteria is December, but it is not likely that it will be done by then, Bray stated.

Board of Education President Willard Love said the gym likely will not be finished in time for this year's basketball season. The gym floor is scheduled to be laid Nov. 14.

I would be surprised if we play a basketball game in there this year

he said.

Also at the meeting, athletic director Larry Herges gave an update on the status of the baseball and softball field construction.

About $31,000 has been spent on the project so far, and funds are depleting, he said.

In a special presentation, Love gave Ohio School Board Associations Special Recognition Awards to seven outstanding faculty and staff members and students.

Faculty members or administrators can nominate individuals for an OSBA award, and the nominee will compete at the district level. Although none of the Alexander nominees advanced beyond the district level, Love said board members are proud of them.

Also, board members approved a trip to France, requested by French Club adviser Daisy Franz, and a trip to London, Paris and Rome, requested by Honors World History teacher Joel Laufman.

In addition, board members approved a trip to the FFA National Convention and also an eighth-grade trip to Washington D.C. 17
