BROOKVILLE - A single-engine plane crashed yesterday after taking off from the Brookville Air Park, killing the pilot, the State Highway Patrol said.
The plane went down about 9:40 a.m. in a cornfield at the end of the runway, said Judy Galloway, manager of the airpark.
The pilot, Eugene Lehman, 40, of Greenville, was the plane's only occupant, said Lt. Rick Fambro, patrol spokesman.
Fambro said a witness told investigators that the plane began losing altitude as it banked following takeoff. He said the aircraft crashed about 400 feet west of the runway and that the pilot was thrown from the plane.
Brookville is about 10 miles northwest of Dayton.
