Perfect records tested

Two football teams undefeated in the Mid-American Conference will hook up in Muncie, Ind. this Saturday as Miami travels to Ball State.

Miami (5-1 overall, 2-0 MAC) is the only team without a conference loss in the MAC East Division. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger leads the RedHawks' offense, which is ranked eighth nationally. He has completed 68.9 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,913 yards with 13 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions. Roethlisberger is also the league's total offense leader, averaging 325.8 yards per game.

you're never out of a game Miami coach Terry Hoeppner said.

Ball State (3-3, 2-0 MAC), with victories against Kent State and Central Michigan, finds itself in a four-way tie atop the MAC West Division with Northern Illinois, Toledo and Bowling Green. The Cardinals' offensive leaders include wide receiver Dante Ridgeway is tied for the league lead in touchdown receptions with eight, and he has 44 catches for 545 yards.

Ball State coach Brady Hoke said the Cardinals are eager to prove themselves against a top team.

They're gonna be our toughest test of the year Hoke said.

Huskies roll on

Northern Illinois (6-0, 2-0 MAC) rallied from a 17-3 halftime deficit to win, 40-24, at Central Michigan last Saturday.

The win, combined with losses by four of the top 10 teams in the country, propelled the Huskies to their highest national rankings of the season (12 in the Associated Press poll, 16 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches' Poll)

Northern Illinois coach Joe Novak said the Huskies must get off to faster starts though he is happy with his team's poise late in games.

Sooner or later

when you dig yourself a hole like that

you're not going to be able to get out of it

Novak said.

The Huskies play host to Western Michigan this weekend at Huskie Stadium.
