The Ohio soccer team continued to struggle this weekend, suffering two one-goal defeats at home.
The Bobcats fought Buffalo for more than 80 minutes of scoreless play Sunday before Bulls forward Emily Russell broke away from Ohio defenders and put the ball into the Ohio goal for the game's only score.
Ohio forward/midfielder Kelly Prandi said the 1-0 loss capped a tough weekend for the Bobcats, who lost in overtime to Wright State, 3-2, Friday.
It's hard
especially when you play the whole game she said. It's back and forth and in the last couple minutes they put one in. That's always hard.
The Bobcats had some close chances in the final minutes, including a shot with five minutes left by forward Tiffany Horvath that Bulls goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert appeared to deflect away from the goal. Referee Mark Berkowitz gave a goal kick to Buffalo instead of a corner kick to Ohio, a call that drew protest from the Ohio players and bench.
There were
as in every game
some questionable calls
and you hope that they don't have an impact on the game
said Ohio coach Stacy Strauss. Today
we certainly would like to have had a corner (kick) there
but you just have to keep battling. Given the number of chances we did have
had we put a few more on frame
it wouldn't have been an issue.
On Friday, Ohio came back from a 2-0 deficit against Wright State with second-half goals by Prandi and midfielder Lindsey Vondrell.
Raiders midfielder Jodie Shoaf, however, scored from 10-yards out in the seventh minute of overtime to give the Bobcats their first home loss at Chessa Field in two years.
Strauss said the home losses were disappointing and will make for a difficult road trip next weekend.
Any time you end a streak like that
