AKRON - A man accused of siccing his pit-bull mix dog on his estranged wife, causing extensive injuries to her head, neck and shoulder, has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge James Murphy on Wednesday also ordered the man's dog, Bud, to be put to death.
Under a plea bargain agreement, Adam Cooper, 39, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty to one count each of felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence. That avoided a trial scheduled for Wednesday.
Cooper also was ordered to pay $12,000 restitution because his injured wife, Charlotte, has no medical insurance.
The August attack occurred at a motel in nearby Hudson, where the couple had been living. Prosecutors said the couple had been arguing because Charlotte Cooper wanted to end the marriage.
The attack detached part of the woman's scalp. Her hair still hasn't all grown back.
They're going to do (cosmetic) surgery
she said. I can't deal with people and being out in public.
