Details have been released regarding the Uptown car accident last weekend that left one female injured.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, The Athens Police Department received a call at 2:22 a.m. that a pedestrian had been struck by a car near Evolution on South Court Street.
Greg Whittler, the driver, was arrested at the time of the accident. He was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired.
Police faulted the victim, Kim White, for the accident. She was cited for failure to give right of way to a vehicle.
According to a witness statement, the impact of the car threw White from the west side of the street to the east side.
Southeastern Ohio Emergency Medical Service transported White to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. White was treated and released the same night, said APD Lt. Tom Pyle.
Because White's injuries were minor, APD decided against charging Whittler with aggravated vehicular assault, Pyle said.
Instead, Whittler will be charged with a DUI. He has been released and is awaiting a court hearing, Pyle said.
