Council adopted a wait-and-see attitude toward the proposed Campus Edge apartment complex during last night's committee meeting.
Members decided that three documents needed to be finished before an ordinance could be up for reading during a regular meeting. Council is waiting on an agreement between Ohio University and the developers -
but it's getting closer said Councilman Dale Tampke, D-at large.
Council members also discussed the viability of an ordinance that will hold landlords accountable for parties in their rental houses. A similar ordinance already is in place in Oxford and the police in Oxford say it has been successful, said Councilman Jim Sands, D-at large.
The ordinance defines the term nuisance party and proposed penalties that tenants as well as landlords would face if found to be repeated violators of the ordinance. However, Councilwoman Nancy Bain, R-3rd ward, said she wants to clarify the owner's liability when tenants violate the ordinance.
