The Ohio University Second Amendment Club has filed a complaint against OU director of student activities Anne Lombard. In the official complaint, club members said she tried to restrict our freedoms that The United States Constitution guarantees us as citizens of this wonderful nation.
The complaint against Lombard was filed Oct. 20 in response to actions and comments club members say Lombard made at the Homecoming parade on Oct. 11. The Second Amendment Club's float included members carrying firearms that had been rendered inoperable, said Jesse Roush, club president.
Roush said the club contacted the Ohio University Police Department, University Program Council and the Athens County Sheriff's Department to get approval to carry the guns.
Club members said while they were at the parade, Lombard asked them not to march with guns. According to the complaint, Lombard said she did not want guns in the parade. She then called the Athens Police Department, who said it was not against any laws, but they would not have approved it.
Anne Lombard could not be reached for comment.
It is the second amendment
and they are allowed to carry arms - it's their right - but we're just looking out for the best interest of everyone involved said Lee Freedman, public relations director for UPC. We're not doubting that they were approved; we just want verification.
According to the complaint, Lombard's only reason for prohibiting the club from marching was her personal beliefs, not any kind of rule or law.
She was hell-bent on kicking us out of her way Roush said. The club members were especially angry about what they described as accusations that they had not gotten the proper permission to have guns.
The Athens County Sheriff's Office and Ohio University Police Department could not be reached for comment.
