Career fair offers opportunities

Ohio University Career Services will sponsor a fall career fair on Wed. Oct. 8. The event is open to all OU students and will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at The Convo.

Bill Fournier, assistant director for employer relations, estimates that as many as 85 companies will be seeking to fill permanent, internship, co-op and summer positions. More than 200 recruiters will be representing their companies.

Usually between 1,000 and 1,500 students attend the fall career fair, Fournier said. He recommended students dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes to the fair.

They only point that I try to stress is that (the fair) is open to all students

Fournier said. It's a way to begin that job search process take advantage of the fact that all these employers are coming here at their expense. Seeing companies realize that it's worth the money to come here rather than go somewhere else that's really big. It shows they're making a commitment both in time and money to come to Ohio University. They want to talk to you.

The career services Web page, www.ohio.edu/careers, has a list of all companies attending the fair. Fournier suggests researching the companies beforehand, so that when it comes time to speak to the company recruiters, it makes them feel like the student is searching for them

and that's certainly going to help their cause.

Opportunities are available for students of many majors. Some majors

and some industries

use career fairs more heavily than others

but we have companies here for all majors

Fournier said.

OU career services offers resume writing seminars, job search strategy advising, and major and career seminars.
