COLUMBUS - President Bush's message on the economy will have to move to the front as the 2004 election approaches, even as the nation continues the war on terrorism, Ohio Senate President Doug White said yesterday.
At a fund-raiser during Bush's 13th presidential visit to Ohio, White said voters in Ohio and other key Midwestern states feel jobs and safe streets are important issues too.
Yes
we're interested in freedom around the world. That's very very important. But the basic driver for all of us is our own personal economic security and the safety of that Main Street in our neighborhoods said White, a Manchester Republican.
He will
I'm sure
start upping his message on that as we get nearer the election.
Ohio's unemployment rate has jumped from 3.9 percent to 5.8 percent since Bush took office.
Bush, in Columbus for the $2,000-per-plate luncheon and a tour of a manufacturing plant, said his tax cuts and other economic stimulants would help Ohio in its slow recovery from a recession. He spoke of U.S. successes in Afghanistan and Iraq, but the economy was a major part of his 25-minute speech at the fund-raiser.
Now that Americans have more take-home pay to spend
to save or invest
the whole economy grows and people are more likely to find a job
Bush told 650 cheering supporters. We're laying the foundation for greater prosperity and more jobs across America so that every one of our citizens has a chance to realize the American dream.
