During a recent team banquet, the Ohio men's and women's track and field teams announced their award winners for the 2003 outdoor season.
Hurdler/jumper Foli James was named Most Valuable Player of the women's team after qualifying for the regional meet in three events and leading the team in individual points scored. James also was named to the All-Mid-American Conference second team after her performance at the conference meet.
Jumper/sprinter Scott Mayle, who recently qualified for the national meet in long jump, was named men's team MVP. Despite competing in only three meets during the outdoor season, Mayle's recent long jump of 25 feet, 10 inches places him second in school history in the event. He will be the Bobcats' lone representative at the national meet next week in Sacramento, Calif.
Freshman MVPs were hurdler/sprinter Byron Gibson and middle-distance runners Melissa Gedeon and Stephanie Willets. At the outdoor MAC championships three weeks ago, Gibson ran the 100-meter dash in 10.93 seconds, the 200 in 21.93 and finished third in the 110 hurdles. At the same meet, Gedeon and Willets posted times of 2:13.92 and 2:14.43 in the 800, placing 15th and 16th, respectively.
Most Improved awards went to Jericka Duncan and Justin Kempe. Duncan, who was also named a women-
