The eighth-grade class from Alexander Middle School will be traveling to northeast Ohio instead of their original destination of Washington D.C.
At a special meeting of the Alexander Local School Board of Education last week, eighth-grade students and their parents decided that among the choices of Washington D.C., Gettysburg and somewhere in Ohio, traveling in Ohio would be the best option, said Superintendent Robert Bray.
At the board’s March meeting, members chose not to approve the trip to Washington D.C. because of the orange homeland-security alert in effect at the time, he said.
The trip will now include the 105 eighth-graders traveling on two tour buses to the northeastern part of the state. Bray said the students will spend May 15 and 16 visiting Cedar Point and the Cleveland Zoo, and attending a Cleveland Indians game.
The trip will be chaperoned by teachers and members of the tour company.
