Wedding bells are ringing again on Pretty Little Liars. In the June 6 episode, one of the first couples on the show got engaged.
Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) finally proposed to Hanna (Ashley Benson). Haleb — the characters’ couple name — has been one of the strongest couples on the show, hardly ever wavering from their love for each other. Though they separated during the five-year time jump and almost ended up with different people, Caleb says it made him realize they are meant for each other.
“I would’ve spent the next 50 years of my life kicking myself for losing the best thing that has ever happened to me,” Caleb says.
The proposal wasn’t a big spectacle. With Hanna’s mom Ashley (Laura Leighton) in town, he asked for her permission in front of Hanna and said he doesn’t want any bells or whistles, just the two of them exchanging vows. It was nice that Hanna’s mom was there for the monumental moment in her daughter’s life, but Hanna seemed less than thrilled about Caleb’s proposal.
Hanna has a lot to worry about right now, with the cops trailing the liars’ in connection to Archer Dunhill (Huw Collins)’s death. She has also been engaged before, so maybe she has reservations about marriage in general.
Whatever had been running through her mind in the apartment dissipates when Caleb takes her camping. She asks him if he was serious, and he responds with “Hanna, I would marry right this second if we could find a bear who is licensed.”
Hanna came prepared to celebrate: glasses, alcohol and cigars. They use the paper on the cigars as rings and then celebrate another way — by getting it on in the tent. The moment is a nice throwback to season one when the two of them first made steps to becoming a couple.
