Softball: Ohio receive first ever rankings vote

For the first time in program history, Ohio received a vote in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Bobcats earned one vote for a possible spot in the Top 25 after a 4-1 weekend in the Tennessee Invitational to improve their record to 12-2 overall. Ohio’s lone loss in the Tennessee Invitational was to host and then No. 15 Tennessee in a 2-1 thriller.

Ohio wrapped up the weekend tournament with wins over Bradley, Delaware and Jacksonville State.

Ohio will wrap up spring break this weekend in Kentucky in the Louisville tournament. The Bobcats will face Northern Iowa, host Louisville, IUPUI and Wright State in the tournament.

Once this week’s games are finished, Ohio will have played seven games in five days. This is the most Ohio has played this season in such a short time, and will test the depth the team has in the lineup and rotation.

Ohio will look to the veteran leadership and impressive pitching of senior Savannah Jo Dorsey to help the team get through this tough stretch of games. Dorsey this season is 6-1 with two saves and a 0.99 ERA after pitching 49.2 innings while striking out 71 batters. Dorsey also earned Mid-American Conference East Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after her work in the Tennessee Invitational.

The offense of Ohio will also look to continue its hot start to the season. As a team, the Bobcats are hitting .303 with eight home runs and 67 RBIs through the first 14 games of the year. The Bobcats speedsters have combined to swipe 13 bases on 18 attempts this season.
