OUPD receives report of rape in Boyd Hall

On Wednesday morning, the Ohio University Police Department received its fifth report of rape for the semester, according to police reports.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., an 18-year-old female reported unwanted sexual contact by a known male suspect in her room in Boyd Hall. The incident allegedly occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and is classified as rape. OUPD is investigating the incident.

Earlier this month, the department fielded three reports of rape within three days, with two requiring the issuance of campus-wide crime alerts. OUPD issues crime alerts when an incident poses a threat to students, faculty or staff, according to the department’s website.

The first incident of the semester occurred in late January, when a female reported non-consensual sexual contact in Ryors Hall.

On Tuesday, the university held a campus conversation session on sexual assault prevention and intervention, during which multiple university officials and OUPD representatives spoke with students about the topic.
