Ohio, fresh off of the heartbreaking loss to Western Michigan in the Mid-American Conference Championship Game, has found its bowl game.
The Bobcats will head to the Dollar General Bowl on Dec. 23 to face Troy in Mobile, Alabama. The game will kickoff at 8 p.m. and will be a repeat of the 2010 New Orleans Bowl, where the Trojans defeated the Bobcats 48-21.
The 2010 New Orleans Bowl is the last bowl game Troy has played in.
The Dollar General Bowl, typically reserved for the No. 1 MAC team, had an open slot after unbeaten Western Michigan was given a spot in the Cotton Bowl. Ohio (8-5) fit the bill and will be the MAC's representative for the game.
Troy is 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Sun Belt this season. Troy's most notable game of the season came when it competed with No. 2 Clemson, falling only 30-24. It was also ranked this season, No. 25 for one week, but it lost to Arkansas State 35-3 in its only week with the ranking.
Troy finished third in the Sun Belt, behind Appalachian State and Arkansas State.
The two teams have one similar opponent this season, Texas State. Ohio lost 56-54 (3OT) in the first game of the season, Troy won 40-7.
The Bobcats previously played in the game when it was under a different sponsor, the GMAC Bowl in 2007. Ohio lost to Southern Mississippi 28-7.
Ohio lost 31-29 to Appalachian State in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl last season. Its last bowl win was a 45-14 Louisiana-Monroe in the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl.
