It didn't look pretty, but the Bobcats got it done.
Ohio beat Miami 17-7 on Saturday in Oxford. The Bobcats moved to 3-2 on the season with the win. It was the first conference game for both teams. Miami fell to 0-5 with the loss.
In the 93rd meeting between the two schools, offense was at a premium for both sides. Ohio only had 197 total yards, while Miami had 238.
The Bobcats were able to manage seven sacks on the day, as well as two interceptions. Javon Hagan had a 60-yard interception return from the Bobcats' own endzone in the first quarter, preventing the RedHawks from tying the game early.
Greg Windham and the offense had trouble getting started, scoring its 10 points in the first half. Windham went 7-18, only throwing for 56 yards.
The leading rusher for the Bobcats was Maleek Irons who rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries.
With quarterback Billy Bahl out with an injury, RedHawks backup Noah Wezensky went 14-25 for 154 yards. He led the RedHawks to their only points of the day.
The game was put away late in the fourth quarter when Blair Brown sacked Wezensky, Kevin Robbins picked up the fumble in the air, putting Ohio ahead with just over a minute to play.
With the win, the Bobcats have now won nine of the last 11 match-ups against the RedHawks, including victories in the last four games.
Ohio will face Bowling Green next week during Homecoming in a game that could decide the MAC East.
