Incoming students will see an increase of $196 in tuition.
Ohio University’s Board of Trustees voted Friday to increase tuition for the class of 2020 by nearly $200.
The increase affects the second group of students under the guaranteed tuition model — the class of 2019 is the first group to have guaranteed tuition — and continuing students will see no tuition increase for the 2016-17 academic year.
With the additional $196 increase, students in the class of 2020 would pay $11,744 in in-state tuition each year.
That means the four-year total for the incoming freshmen would be $46,976.
The board also approved a $500 increase to the out-of-state surcharge, the first time it has changed since 2008, Stephen Golding, vice president for Finance and Administration, said at Thursday’s Joint Committee meeting.
Room and board costs will also increase by 3.5 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
Tuition increased 5.1 percent for the class of 2019, who are under the guaranteed tuition model, also dubbed the Ohio Guarantee, according to a previous Post report.
A state tuition freeze has prevented increases for two years, the 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years, for continuing students not on the Ohio Guarantee, according to a previous Post report.
