One year after being kicked off campus, Delta Tau Delta’s fraternity house has gone up for sale, negating previous indications that the national chapter would keep the house for future use.
The fraternity house, 4 University Terrace, is listed on Ohio Realty’s website. The 37-bed house is being offered for $2.3 million, according to the website.
Delta Tau Delta’s national chapter directed calls seeking comment to Terry Russell, president of the Beta Chapter of Delta Tau Delta House Association.
“We have little to report other than the fraternity house has been listed for sale, and we are exploring opportunities,” Russell said via e-mail, declining further comment.
John Wharton, the realtor managing the sale, also declined to comment.
Delta Tau Delta was suspended for hazing pledges at a fraternity event in November 2009. One pledge said he was blindfolded, forced to drink large quantities of alcohol and repeatedly “slapped around,” according to a police report. Pledges told police they were told they would not get into the fraternity if they refused drinks or beatings. Two pledges were hospitalized with injuries.
Ohio University and the city of Athens found the fraternity guilty of hazing. The chapter was fined $22,000 and banned from campus for five years.
Last April, members of the national chapter said they had planned to keep the house, which underwent a $2 million renovation in 2008, for possible future use by the fraternity.
